The Evolution of a Successful Early Intervention Program (EIP)

CIS Onsite has been providing the Early Intervention Program at a Major Disposable Tableware Manufacturer since June of 2006. Employees have been educated to report their work-related pain problems at the onset of symptoms. Employees are seen by a Physical or Occupational Therapist for an average of 2-3 visits in order to address proper self management of symptoms, education in posture and body mechanics, and ergonomic assessment/education of the employee performing routine job tasks.

Since the program's inception, there has been a significant reduction in the percentage of cases requiring referral to a physician. The Company EHS Manager strongly believes that: "EIP = less money spent in doctor bills & taxi rides, assistance with evaluating ergonomic risk factors, less time off the floor for doctor visits & most importantly, less prolonged injury symptoms."

In the first year alone there was a 50% reduction in Worker's Compensation costs associated with work-related sprains and strains - a savings of over $447,000! A successful EIP such as this has a significant impact on reducing a companies OSHA recordables, lost time days, and restricted duty days.
